Sometimes it's hard living so far from your parents. Holidays and birthdays used to be easy - a short drive, dinner out, or a long weekend. Living a couple thousand miles a way forces you to be a little better a making plans. But - I learned it's still easy to be somewhat impulsive and get a large group of people to keep a secret!
A few weekends ago, I flew down to surprise my mom and dad for their birthdays. After conspiring with mom's cousins, people I work with, and Mike's parents and his brother, I collected a slew of birthday cards, organized birthday lunch, and took dad out to the gun range.
I have to say that weekend was one of the best I've had in a long time. Seeing the surprise on their faces when I came walking up the stairs (thanks dad, for accidentally leaving the garage open) was priceless! To be able to have the ability to do this, as well as all the family members who participated is beyond amazing. So thank you to everyone who helped make this weekend possible!! We will always remember it.
