Cold as ice...

The temperature of ice would be a welcome relief after the past week. We saw temps dip into the double digit negatives, and not go above single digits. The next few days are looking the same. How do we survive such awful, terrible weather you wonder? Well, you add a few extra layers, some fun hats, take a deep breath, and get on with life (all the while counting the days until summer). Then you come back inside, fire up the wood stove, and grab a blanket for a nap.

Cold weather this year has brought some fun days, and a slightly embarrassing adventure trying to help our neighbors out. The tractor we bought last year comes in handy, and we occasionally loan it out. Our wonderful neighbors asked to borrow it to finish their driveway after their snowblower broke. We layer up, head out, and start it warming up with no problem. Pull out in the drive-way and she shuts down. It was -7 that day and we made a rookie mistake - not swapping out to winter diesel or plugging the engine block heater in. After a few failed re-start attempts, a dash to the other neighbors from some Diesel 911, a trip to Lowes for a new torpedo heater, and figuring out how to bleed air out of the lines, we were back in business and able to help. Lesson learned on why everyone has block heaters, and I need to set a reminder to change out the diesel.
