Every so often we like to escape the "city" and head in to the wilderness. The beautiful thing about the Knick River Public Use Area (known locally as Jim Creek), is how close it is to town, but how far away you feel. An easy drive from Anchorage, you could spend an entire day here and still not see everything. Fishing, camping, trail rides, even a glacier - it's all at your fingertips. A word of caution though if you're new to the area and wanting to make it to the glacier: find a local or a guide group to help you get out the first time. River crossings can be tricky and it's a long ride!
